Questions worth a straight answer
Including the ones where the answer is “not yet”. The product's own rule is that it must never bluff; the site is held to the same standard.
- How is this different from Otter, Fireflies or Granola?
- Those tools transcribe and summarise after the fact. ReelMeeting keeps a grounded record while the meeting is happening — decisions, commitments, open questions and callbacks to earlier meetings — and raises critique in a separate section, during the call, quoting the words that prompted it. You can run both; they answer different questions.
- Does it interrupt the meeting?
- No. Nothing is spoken aloud and nothing is shared with other participants. Everything appears in a small floating overlay only you can see, showing at most three live cards at a time, ranked by severity.
- What happens to my audio?
- Audio is processed in the moment for transcription and critique and is never persisted after the meeting ends. The transcript and the findings are yours; your local meeting history is stored in an encrypted database on your machine, keyed through your operating system keychain.
- Which platforms does it run on?
- macOS 13 or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel, and that is the version to use today. A Windows installer exists and now carries the audio engine, but it has never been run on real Windows hardware — so we will not tell you it works, and we will not tell you it does not. Until someone verifies it, treat Windows as untested rather than supported.
- Can it run entirely offline?
- Local Mode is a preview, not a finished feature. The intent is a hard network boundary where no audio, transcript or finding bytes leave your machine. Until it ships properly, treat ReelMeeting as a cloud-processing tool and read the privacy page.
- What does it cost?
- It is free during the beta. When billing starts it will be handled through PayFast and priced in South African rand. There is no card required to use the beta and no setup call.
- Do I need to tell people it is running?
- Recording and consent rules vary by jurisdiction and are yours to honour. The app requires you to acknowledge this before the first meeting, and nothing is captured until you press Start.
- What if it has nothing useful to say?
- Then the critique section stays empty, and the meeting record does not. Critique has to carry a verbatim span from the conversation to appear at all — it may not speak without evidence. The record of decisions and commitments is extractive, so it keeps earning its place regardless.
